My World Of Color Confusion

Here I am but where have I been!?!?!? The past month has been a whirl wind of fearless knitting, color, planning. If it’s July, then it's all about working on the I-75 Yarn Crawl for Ann’s By Design. For me that means Magic Balls, Magic Balls and more Magic Balls. I’m very lucky to have recruited Thea and Linda, my knitting buddies at Ann’s, to measure yarn. For weeks we have been cutting 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 yard strips of pink yarn. But Magic Balls 2019 is a story in itself. Let’s move on.

​I also have been seriously engaged in fearless knitting. But that also is a story for another time. What I really want to talk about is. . .

LINDA!!!!!!! On Wednesday, I am going to Stevenson, Washington to see Linda. I am so excited. Last year, Linda came to stay with me at the condo so this year I am going to her. How great is that! In addition to spending time with Linda talking, knitting, talking, knitting, Linda is planning my own private Yarn Crawl because I won’t be there for the official one. I have been very good not buying UDY (undesignated yarn) in preparation for this trip. Linda has instructed me to bring an empty suitcase for all of the yarn I am going to buy. I will have 5 hours of inflight knitting and a couple hours at the airport, so I think I need to start planning my travel knitting. I do have some ideas.

Remember? It is the perfect travel knitting. Once you get started, it is wonderfully mindless but not boring. Here's where the color confusion comes in.

This is Miss Babs Polydactyl Set of Yummy 2-ply Toes in color sequence "A Play On Purple Glossy Starling." I was looking through yarn in my closet, saw this and thought “OMG! This is perfect!” Issey scarf would be absolutely stunning out of this. I can just see me knitting this in the airport and on the plane and throngs of people coming up and saying, “What are you knitting?” “This is the most beautiful yarn I’ve ever seen!” So, of course, I wound it and now it looks like this.

I got the pattern out, ok, it takes fingering weight, check. And a size 5 needle, check. When I began casting on, I realized that the yarn was way too fine for the needle. So I checked the yarn and it said “needle size 1-3.” WHAT!!!!! The pattern said heavy fingering. I decided to go down to a 3 needle. It still was loose. I’ve done this pattern many times and all of a sudden I knew it was never going to work. I decided to take a trip to the Stash Studio. Where I found this. . .

This is Twisted Fiber Art Evolution in colorway Zen. It is scrumptious! Perfect for Issey scarf. So I got my needle out and cast on, once again too fine. I feel like mama bear, papa bear and baby bear with their bed and porridge. Too hard, too soft, just right. Too hot, too cold, just right. I’ve had too fine and now I’m looking for just right. No not just right, I want perfect. So tomorrow I will take another trip to the Stash Studio and look for perfect. So, I’m in a state of “Color Confusion.” I love it! One of my very favorite problems, obsessing over the perfect yarn.  It doesn't get any better than that.

When I get back on Sunday, I will have pictures of my own private Yarn Crawl and the amazing yarn I purchased. Until next Sunday, keep your fingers crossed that I end my state of Color Confusion and find the perfect yarn for Issey.
